Color converter guide
Which formats can you paste?
This tool accepts HEX in 3, 4, 6, or 8 digit forms (with or without a leading #), rgb() and rgba() using integers or percentages, hsl() and hsla(), hsv(), hsva() and hsb(), plus the standard CSS named colors such as red or rebeccapurple. Each representation shows the same color in every other format immediately as you type.
Ranges are validated, not clamped
Out-of-range values are rejected rather than adjusted. rgb(300, 0, 0) is not silently turned into rgb(255, 0, 0), and hsl(120, 150%, 50%) is reported with a clear message. Hue accepts any number and wraps around; saturation and lightness must stay within 0% to 100%.
Alpha is preserved in every form
Alpha travels through every conversion. An 8-digit HEX or an rgba()/hsla()/hsva() value keeps its transparency in the output: opaque colors stay #RRGGBB, translucent ones gain an AA octet as #RRGGBBAA, and rgb()/hsl()/hsv() become rgba()/hsla()/hsva() automatically. Opaque input never gains an explicit alpha octet.
Using the result
Each representation has its own Copy button. The swatch and the Light/Dark label help you judge contrast before pasting a color into a stylesheet — pick dark text on light swatches and vice versa.
Your privacy
Color conversion runs locally in your browser. The color you paste is not uploaded, saved to the URL, localStorage, or sessionStorage, and is not included in analytics events. Copy writes the value to your clipboard only when you click it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a color to HEX?
Paste any supported color — a named color, rgb(), hsla(), or even an existing 8-digit HEX — and the HEX field updates to #RRGGBB automatically. Colors with alpha convert to #RRGGBBAA.
Does the converter support transparency?
Yes. Alpha is preserved across every format. A 4- or 8-digit HEX, rgba(), hsla(), or hsva() input keeps its alpha in all outputs, and transparent is honored as an explicit zero alpha.
Why does rgb(300, 0, 0) show an error instead of red?
Out-of-range values are rejected rather than clamped so you notice mistakes instead of shipping a color you did not mean. Each channel must be between 0 and 255 for integers or 0% and 100% for percentages.
Is the converter case sensitive?
No. Uppercase and lowercase HEX, rgb(), HSL, HSV, and named color spellings all parse identically, and whitespace between values is ignored.
Is my color uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs locally in your browser. The value you paste is not sent to a remote service or to analytics, and it is not saved in the URL, localStorage, or sessionStorage.
